Casa Lapin x26, Bangkok

By Kenny Mah and CK Lim

Coffee comes with expectations.

That might not be a bad thing. Sometimes it’s good to know what to expect before you even arrive at your destination.

Such was the case with Casa Lapin x26, the fourth branch of the Bangkok-based café company that we’ve visited in recent years. (And because we enjoy staying in the Phrom Phong neighbourhood, this is the branch we tend to return to time and again.)

With coffee beans sourced from Thai roasters such as Pacamara, Roots and Brave Roasters, the quality of our cuppas are always consistent. The joy is in discovering what else they have to offer here.

This could well be the largest outlet for Casa Lapin, with their usual mix of high ceilings, industrial-style décor and plenty of wood complimented with wide windows to suffuse the space with natural light. The entrance is worth a mention; the plethora of plants and dried flowers appear to be courtesy of an in situ florist called Wallflowers (that seemed to have closed during our last visit, alas).

At the rear is a more refined sit-down dining space to supplement the hip café area; there is also a hostel and co-working space called ONEDAY. The biggest surprise is their menu, which elevates usual brunch fare with some Thai-influenced dishes such as flash-fried crispy eggs paired with a shellfish marinara gravy. Delicious.
