Lola Bikes & Coffee, Den Haag

A city on the North Sea coast of the Netherlands, The Hague (or Den Haag in Dutch) is usually known for two things – being the seat of the Dutch parliament and the home to the U.N.’s International Court of Justice. Perhaps it should be famous for a third thing closer to our hearts: coffee.

The best spot for coffee here is indisputably Lola Bikes & Coffee, its reputation likely more due to the former with its array of well-crafted bicycles made by small companies. Cycling enthusiasts ride here for everything bike related including ordering a custom made bicycle (the ultimate luxury, perhaps).

Oh, but there is also coffee.

Located in the heart of Den Haag’s hipster and artist enclave, Lola Bikes & Coffee is suffused with light despite the eclectic décor dotted everywhere with – what else? – bicycles. Folks are friendly here, whether you’re chatting them up about gears and wheels or beans and foamed milk.

Coffee here is made with beans from Bocca Coffee, a Dutch specialty coffee roaster founded by the Simons brothers, Menno and Tewis. Great cuppas here by Lola and her baristas, but the shop is all about great causes too, such as supporting Kampala Cycling that helps impoverished children in Uganda who love cycling to obtain bicycles and equipment.

Oh yes, coffee and lots of heart.
