Good One, Auckland

Coffee is oh so good.

First opened in 2008, Good One is Coffee Supreme’s flagship café in Auckland. Unlike most cafés which would prefer locations facing the main street, Good One is hidden in a tiny back lane in Ponsonby. The choice is inspired: its former life as a manufacturing building can be seen in the high ceilings and ample natural light coming in through the large windows.

The main feature of the café has to be an incredible collection of National Geographic magazines – over 4,500 of them! – apparently bought during an auction. Hence the white space is accentuated here and there by spots of yellow that is the trademark spines of the magazine as well as hand painted signage.

For single origin beans, a Fetco Batch brewer ensures consistent supply of quality filter coffee. A Slayer espresso machine takes care of the espressos and flat whites. Pastries are courtesy of Little & Friday, delivered fresh daily.

The baristas and servers are friendly; we enjoyed chatting with a couple of them while sipping our coffees. With the casual ambiance and factory cool décor, not to mention peace and quiet away from the bustle of the main street, there’s no better café to stop by for a good one.

而Good One便是Coffee Supreme設於奧克蘭的一家咖啡旗艦店。
有別于許多位於大街上的咖啡館,Good One選擇 隱藏在Ponsonby的巷弄中。
這里原本是一家廢棄的工廠。
改裝后以白色為基調,配上木質、鐵質家具和洋灰地,
透漏著淡淡的工廠風味。
而從大天窗傾瀉下的大片光線,加上桌面上的鮮花,
就是一副簡潔明亮的好景色。
說到裝潢佈置,不能不提的,
還有照片中所見到的那些一疊疊鮮黃色的刊物,
這可是一本本的世界地理雜誌National Geographic,共有4500多本呢,
堪稱最多‘黃刊’的咖啡館!(這是我亂說的! :P)

作為咖啡旗艦店,對於咖啡的要求當然不能馬虎。
除了豆子烘焙要得宜外,咖啡機也是確保一杯好咖啡的條件之一,
Good One 這選擇了以Slayer來泡製意式咖啡。
而作為一家讓人留下深刻印象的咖啡館,我覺得咖啡師更是功不可沒,
畢竟一位親切的咖啡師具有畫龍點睛的效果。
這裡的咖啡師就非常的友善,閒暇時和我們談了許多有關咖啡的話題。
有一點我還蠻意外的,那就是原來在紐西蘭,
喝單品手沖黑咖啡的當地人並不多,
會點手沖黑咖啡的一般都是亞洲人或遊客。
所以說想了解一個地方的咖啡實況,以及想知道哪裡可以找到其他好咖啡館,
和咖啡師聊天絕對是最佳途徑!
